Introduction
StudyAmigo ("StudyAmigo", "we", "us", "our") is a business registered in Ontario, Canada. AAmigo is the product StudyAmigo operates. We respect your privacy and want to be clear about what we do with your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect it when you use studyamigo.online and our related services (the "Services"). As an Ontario business, we follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you live somewhere else, you may also have rights under your own laws, such as the EU and UK GDPR or Kenya's Data Protection Act. We honour those rights too. See Section 07. By using the Services, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please stop using the Services. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We explain how in Section 11.
01. Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to run a study platform. Information You Give Us • Your name and email address when you create an account • Your password. It is handled by our account provider and is not readable by us • Your IB level (SL or HL), your study goal, and your daily study time target, which you set up when you start • Optional profile details you choose to add in Settings, such as your school, country, time zone and graduation year • Messages you send us, including support tickets and feedback Information About How You Study • Your progress: videos watched, questions attempted and completed, bookmarks and saved items, and daily question results • Study activity events, such as logging in, starting a video, or attempting a question, with the time they happened • Your streaks and points Technical Information • Our hosting and account providers may log technical details such as your IP address, browser type, and device type when you connect, so the Services work and stay secure We do not collect your date of birth. We do not ask for payment details, because AAmigo is free during our beta.
02. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: Run the Services • Create and manage your account • Give you access to videos, questions, notes, cheatsheets and other features • Show the right topics for your level and keep track of your progress, streaks and points Communicate With You • Send service emails, such as sign-in links and password resets • Respond to your support requests and feedback Improve AAmigo • Look at how students use the Services in aggregate, so we can improve content and fix problems • Find and fix technical issues Keep Things Safe and Legal • Prevent fraud, abuse and unauthorised use • Enforce our Legal Terms • Comply with the law We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for advertising.
03. Who Processes Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, only to run the Services: • Appwrite Cloud (Frankfurt, Germany, EU): stores your account and study data • Vercel: runs the website and provides our page-view analytics • Cloudflare R2: stores videos and files • Tally: provides the feedback form, if you choose to use it These providers act on our instructions and are bound by their own terms with us to protect the data they handle. We may also share information: • If the law or a court requires it • If we believe in good faith that it is needed to protect our rights, our users, or the safety of others, or to investigate abuse • If StudyAmigo is sold or transferred, in which case your information may go to the new owner, who must follow this policy
04. Data Retention
We keep your personal information while your account is active and for as long as we need it to run the Services, resolve disputes, and meet legal duties. If you ask us to delete your account or data, we will delete or anonymise your personal information, except where the law requires us to keep something. Aggregate statistics that no longer identify you may be kept. To make a deletion request, email help.ibaamigo@gmail.com.
05. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. These include: • Encrypting data in transit using HTTPS • Keeping passwords with our account provider rather than storing them ourselves • Limiting administrator access to the systems that hold student data No method of sending or storing data is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. Please choose a strong password and do not share your account.
07. Your Rights and Choices
Under PIPEDA, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, challenge its accuracy, and have it corrected. You can also withdraw your consent, subject to legal and contractual limits. If you live in a place with other privacy laws, you may have more rights, for example: • Access: a copy of your personal information • Correction: fixing information that is wrong or incomplete • Deletion: erasing your personal information, subject to legal limits • Restriction and objection: limiting or objecting to some processing • Portability: receiving your data in a usable format • Withdrawing consent: where we rely on your consent This includes rights under the EU and UK GDPR and Kenya's Data Protection Act. We honour those rights. To use any of them, email help.ibaamigo@gmail.com. We will respond within the time your law requires. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or to the data protection authority where you live.
08. Children's Privacy
You must be at least 16 to use the Services. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you are 16 or 17, you may need a parent or guardian's consent where your local law requires it. It is your responsibility to make sure you have it. If we learn that we hold information from someone under 16, we will delete it as quickly as we reasonably can. 09. International Data Transfers
StudyAmigo is based in Ontario, Canada. Your account and study data are stored with Appwrite Cloud in Frankfurt, Germany. Our website runs on Vercel, and videos and files are stored with Cloudflare R2. This means your data may be processed outside the country where you live, including outside Canada. We use providers that are bound by contracts with us to protect the data they handle. By using the Services, you understand that your information may be processed in these places, which may have different privacy laws from yours.
10. Third-Party Links
The Services may link to websites and services we do not own or control. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please read their privacy policies.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, the law, or the Services. When we make a material change, we will: • Post the updated policy on the Site with a new "Last updated" date • Email your registered address where the change affects how we use your information If you keep using the Services after a change takes effect, that means you accept the updated policy.
